Sri Lanka Business Delegation 2026: Building Partnerships, Exploring Opportunities, and Learning from Industry Leaders
SMACON Technologies | Business Delegation | October 2026
The five-day business delegation to Sri Lanka, organised as part of the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s business engagement programme, was an enriching experience filled with valuable discussions, industry insights, and opportunities to strengthen business ties between India and Sri Lanka.
Representing SMACON Technologies, Managing Director Sreekesh Krishna Pai joined fellow delegates from the Cochin Chamber for a series of engagements with business leaders, government representatives, industry experts, and investment promotion officials.
From participating in the Sri Lanka Economic & Investment Summit 2026 to visiting leading manufacturing facilities and exploring opportunities for cross-border collaboration, the visit offered valuable perspectives on Sri Lanka’s business environment and its potential for future partnerships.
Sri Lanka Economic & Investment Summit 2026: Exploring New Business Opportunities
The delegation’s business engagements began with the Sri Lanka Economic & Investment Summit 2026, held at the Shangri-La Colombo.
The summit brought together business leaders, industry representatives, and delegates from India and Sri Lanka to discuss economic development, investment opportunities, and avenues for greater business cooperation.
The sessions provided insights into Sri Lanka’s evolving economic landscape, investment environment, and emerging opportunities across industries. The delegation also participated in B2B interactions with Sri Lankan entrepreneurs, opening conversations around potential collaborations in technology, manufacturing, trade, and professional services.
One of the key highlights was the fireside chat with His Excellency Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of Sri Lanka, which offered perspectives on economic recovery, governance, reforms, and sustainable industrial development.
Another significant milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The agreement marked an important step towards strengthening business relationships and creating opportunities for sustained cooperation between Kerala and Sri Lanka.
For SMACON, these interactions reinforced the importance of building meaningful relationships and understanding the needs of businesses in new markets.
Learning from Manufacturing Excellence at Nestlé Lanka
The visit to the Nestlé Lanka manufacturing facility was one of the most valuable industrial learning experiences during the delegation.
The team observed the spray-drying technology used in coconut milk powder production and gained insights into the processes involved in large-scale food manufacturing.
Beyond the technology, what stood out was the emphasis on organisational culture, process discipline, and continuous improvement.
The facility’s DMAIC dashboards—covering Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control—and its Innovation Dashboard reflected a structured approach to operational improvement. The visible focus on cleanliness, hygiene, orderliness, and employee involvement further demonstrated the importance of maintaining consistent standards across manufacturing operations.
The visit offered an important reminder: manufacturing excellence depends not only on technology, but also on the people, processes, and culture that support it.
A shared commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation plays a vital role in building efficient and well-managed operations.
SMACON extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Samantha Ganethige, Technical Director, Mr. Duminda Gamage from the Human Resources team, and the entire Nestlé Lanka team for facilitating the visit and sharing valuable insights.
Insights into Large-Scale Production at Elephant House
The delegation also visited the Elephant House ice cream manufacturing facility, operated by Ceylon Cold Stores PLC, part of the John Keells Group.
The visit provided an opportunity to observe cone-making and ice cream manufacturing processes and gain practical insights into production technology, quality control, and large-scale manufacturing operations.
Seeing these processes firsthand highlighted the coordination required to maintain production standards and manage manufacturing activities at scale.
SMACON extends its gratitude to Mr. Sanjeewa Jayasundara, Senior Vice President of John Keells Holdings and Head of Supply Chain Management, and the Ceylon Cold Stores team for their warm hospitality and for facilitating the visit.
Exploring Investment Opportunities with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka
Understanding the investment environment was another important part of the delegation’s programme.
During the meeting with senior officials of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), including Mr. Dhammike Basnayake, Director – Investment Promotion, the delegation gained insights into investment opportunities, procedures for establishing business operations, incentives available to foreign investors, and institutional support.
The discussions helped clarify the avenues available to businesses exploring opportunities in Sri Lanka and highlighted the importance of understanding local requirements when entering a new market.
For Kerala-based businesses, such engagements provide a valuable starting point for evaluating potential partnerships, business expansion, and cross-border investment.
Engaging with Sri Lanka's Industry and Government Leaders
The delegation’s engagements extended beyond the investment summit and industrial visits.
A meeting with Hon. Mr. Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Government of Sri Lanka, provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on industrial development and potential collaboration between Indian and Sri Lankan businesses.
The delegation also interacted with representatives of Access Group, exploring possible avenues for cooperation across different products, services, and business sectors.
Another important engagement was the meeting with His Excellency Mr. Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka. The discussion offered perspectives on India–Sri Lanka economic relations, Sri Lanka’s development opportunities, and the strategic importance of strengthening commercial ties between the two neighbouring countries.
These engagements underscored the value of dialogue between businesses, government institutions, and industry stakeholders in identifying opportunities for sustainable growth.
What the Visit Means for SMACON Technologies
For SMACON Technologies, the Sri Lanka delegation was an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the country’s business landscape, connect with industry stakeholders, and explore possibilities for future collaboration.

Its offerings include digital transformation, enterprise application development, ERP integration and automation, AI and data solutions, and ProcureSmart, its procurement and vendor management platform.
Interactions with businesses across manufacturing, supply chain, and other sectors provided useful perspectives on how organisations operate and the importance of technology, process management, and collaboration in supporting business objectives.
The visit also reinforced the value of developing relationships before pursuing business opportunities. Understanding local markets, listening to industry needs, and building trust are important steps towards establishing sustainable partnerships.
As SMACON continues to explore opportunities beyond India, Sri Lanka represents a market where meaningful business relationships can create avenues for knowledge exchange and potential collaboration.
Building Stronger Business Ties Between Kerala and Sri Lanka
The delegation concluded with new connections, valuable learning experiences, and opportunities for continued engagement.
From discussions at the Economic & Investment Summit to visits to established manufacturing facilities and meetings with investment promotion authorities, each engagement contributed to a broader understanding of Sri Lanka’s business environment.
SMACON Technologies is grateful to the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry for organising the delegation and facilitating these interactions. We also extend our sincere thanks to the organisations, officials, and business leaders who welcomed the delegation and shared their time and insights.
The visit reaffirmed a simple but important principle: lasting business partnerships begin with meaningful conversations, mutual understanding, and a shared interest in growth.
The delegation may have concluded, but the opportunity to build stronger business connections between Kerala and Sri Lanka continues.
